When GL rolled out the Star Wars bandwagon with the first load of cgi updates it was kinda cool; Having "windows" thru cloud city and some the additional add ins seemed to enhance the whole experience. Sadly the addition of lengthened musical scenes in ANH and ROTJ, the Jabba scene in ANH, the famous Greedo shooting first edit in ANH and countless other pointless changes/additions/removals right up to inserting the new-anakin in the "ghost scene" of ROTJ made, imo, the newer versions overly cheesy, stupid and frnkly unwatchable.
So I was really pleased to be able to get the original theatrical versions on DVD...just took me a while to get them!
Having watched them back I have to say the original is the way it should be and GL should've left them well alone. Well worth getting copies if you want to see the movies as you remember them!

I purchased this for my 7 year old nephew who is a big fan of the new movies but had never seen the originals. He loved them, kept him totally happy, I was a huge fan first time round (late 1970's/early 1980's) and we both watched these back to back for weeks.

I'm going to start with a bold statement: these are some of the greatest movies (and tales) ever told. By no means am I an obsessive sci fi buff or believe myself to be a jedi, but the quality of these films is undeniable. For example, my wife had never seen star wars or was even interested, so I persuaded her to watch the original trilogy and she loved them so much she insisted we got hold of all six! I would highly reccomend these films as they are an action packed, serious, romantic tale of futuristic swashbuckling and chivalry. Also there is no coarse langage and very minor violence (apart from the end of episode 3, which may scare younger children) so these films are appropriate family classics and excellent additions to almost any dvd collection.
