When I first started watching this show, I was tentative to say the least. ITV2's 'Scary Just Got Sexy' promotional campaign had put me off it for three years but, after catching a season 4 episode one night, I proceeded to purchase this boxset and was soon completely and utterly addicted.
The series follows two brothers, Dean and Sam Winchester, who were trained, practically from birth, to fight supernatural monsters after their mother was killed in suspicious circumstances when they were both young. The first season follows them in the hunt for their missing father, who both raised and trained them.
The series develops gradually, and every season gets better and better, bringing in enough intricate backstories to keep it interesting, but not too many to overload viewers, as some shows have a tendencies to do.
The acting is generally pretty good, with the on-screen chemistry between Jensen Ackles (Dean) and Jared Padalecki (Sam) making the show the success it is. However, there are a few cringeworthy moments, not least the emotional scenes which at times come across very drama school.
The writing is what makes this show shine however, and there is certainly no lack of pop culture references that will amuse both young and old alike. The comedy is frequent enough that there is rarely an episode where it gets too disturbing (though there are a couple that had me hiding behind the sofa), and the developing subplots stop it from becoming too repetitive.
Overall, a really enjoyable series that will have you hooked from episode one and still glued to the sofa at episode one hundred.

this box set is fantastic. gr8 value for money i'm only on season 3 at the mo, loads of veiwing time required ( even better when ur on ur own)
i bought this set coz i enjoyed the series on tv (sky) and because i missed a few and that series 5 was due to start i thought i'd better do some catching up.
as i've said this is brilliant if you like all the heeby-geeby stuff and lets face it the guys who play sam n dean winchester are yummy ( jared and jensen)
i highly recommend this box set to anyone and i cant wait till season 5 is available to buy on dvd.

if there were no cute leading roles, i wouldve never watched this show after the first episode. the show contains the poor copy of the x files, and idea copied from various movies made since even the 70s. maybe kids wouldve liked it better, but to my opinion (im 32) this is not worth taking space on my dvd shelf.
supporting roles throughout serials are far more better in smallville or even in twilight saga movies. i hate to give bad credits to something that has been created for few years, but i simply can not pull out anything good about this one but the good act of the brotehrs and their dad which are excellent actors.
