Excellent - I have enjoyed all of the X-men films but this is much better by far. Get to see the history of Wolverine and find out a bit more about the person.

Its a great action film not doubt about it! but as a comic book fan I was annoyed that Deadpool is not the same Deadpool as in the comics books! The merc with mouth in this movie has no mouth! Other than this minor detail a great action movie none the less!

I had heard some mediocre reviews when it was released in the cinemas, but Hugh Jackman's so damn prefect for the role of Logan/Wolverine that I belatedly checked out this prequel. I was not disappointed There's some good action in this movie right from the start, where we see Wolverine and his half-brother Victor/Sabretooth fighting together in various wars through the ages, with Sabretooth (a brooding Liev Schreber) becoming increasingly violent and unpredicatable until he massacres some army chums in Vietnam. The brothers face the firing squad for this, which brings them to the attention of mutant hunter Colonel William Stryker, who we met in X2. The scene is set for finding out how Wolverine got those remarkable claws. Schreiber's presence, bulk and facial hair matches that of Jackman, and his constant air of barely-contained violence really grounds this movie and make him a plausible brother to the Wolverine: not at all like the version we saw in the original X-men movie. We get a first half with a fair bit of back-story, including Logan's romance with a school teacher high in the Canadian Rockies, and one scene where Logan confronts a redneck that appears to add nothing whatsoever to the plot until much, much later, but somewhere it the middle it really takes off when the action moves to New Orleans. Here, the Wolverine, now in possession of his adamantine skeleton, goes looking for a mutant called Gambit who can lead him to Stryker's secret "island" base. There he learns the truth about Stryker's experimentation and we get to see a fair few captured mutants (including a young Scott Summers). The finale with "Weapon XI" is one of the best-realised in this sort of movie that I can remember, easily rivaling Neo's truck-top fight in Matrix 2, and Scott's breakout with his fellow captives and eventual rescue will bring a lump to the throat of any true X-men devotee.
