I have to say that Cookson is not my sort of writer, so I bought these as a present for my dearly beloved, the wife that is. She loves them and whenever I'm out of the way she puts one on and really enjoys herself. If you like this type of story, then I am sure you will be delighted with thes productions

I thought I would not like these stories of hard times (mostly) in the North East of England in the 19th and early 20th Centuries, but in fact the sheer quality and also the ability of the author as raconteuse carries it through brilliantly, sometimes with a "happy ending", sometimes definitely not...Well worth seeing.

i love her style of writing,i like the setting and period that the stories are setin,i have wanted them for a long time so when i saw them,at the right price i bought them. each dvd takes you to the time and place they are set in i find i can watch them over and over again.i have read most of her books over the years and just wish a lot more of them were made into films.i cant praise them enough, but i would probably be safe in saying they are very much a ladies film, although my teenage grandson has on ocassion been known to sit with me and before he realises it he has watched it to the end but not very often.
